Gallery Visit

I visited the CJ Gallery located on 343 4th Ave. San Diego, CA 92101. The artist I chose is
Mirang Wonne. The title of her artworks are unknown and the dates of them are not specified.
The theme for this specific exhibition is flower petals. To create these artworks Wonne used a
torch lit with flame on stainless steel mesh. Then she placed them on top of already made
colorful paper. Wonne used an usually technique and material. This is one thing that drew me to
the artwork. Another was the subject matter. According to Wonne she is trying to convey the
sublime beauty of nature or life while using harsh industrial materials and tools. Woone's main
claim is that despite of life's struggles and failures, life is beautiful. The artwork was not
commissioned for anyone in particular. It was designed to be sold in an art gallery. It was
created to show the beauty of life and life's positive qualities. I think the audience is meant to be
gallery viewers, which come from all age groups and economical situations. Yet, only the well-off
or rich can afford to buy these pieces of art. The prices in this exhibition range from 5,000 to
100,000 dollars per piece, depending on the size. It is more likely that the well-off and the rich
and their families will seen these artworks on a regular basis.
